Fernweh

October 15, 2026 / datavorous

We are made of the world, yet somehow capable of standing apart from it and wondering what it all means.

Life appears to be the distance between possibility and reality, between all the lives we could have lived and the one we eventually come to inhabit. But a life need not contain every possible experience to be complete.

Perhaps, then, the loveliest way to spend our time is to remain endlessly curious about the world, without feeling obligated to conquer it.

To observe, to wonder, to love, and to create, knowing that none of it is meant to last forever. For life is making things that will disappear, and we are temporary beings who insist on making things beautiful.

To wander with fernweh, to lose oneself in tarab, to meet another with ichigo ichie, and to live with ubuntu - perhaps that is enough.

Enough.

A sequel to Impermanence.
The author completed one more year in this world, as of today.
